As a result of last year\u2019s trip to Japan, this year we\nhad the chance to host students from the Municipal High School Hiyoshigaoka in\nKyoto, Japan. They were accompanied by the deputy director of the school, Ms. Yoko\nTayama and their English teacher, Ms. Kazuyo Kawakubo.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Visits<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the six days spent in Cluj-Napoca the students and their teachers visited the beauties of Transylvania:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Salina Turda and the fortress of Alba Iulia<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • \"\"<\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    and took part in a guided tour of the city <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    ending at the City Hall, where they had the opportunity to meet Mr. Emil Boc, Mayor of Cluj Napoca. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    The itinerary also included the Ethnographic Museum, where they learned traditional Romanian folk dances,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • \"\"<\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      the Faculty of Letters from Babe\u0219-Bolyai University, where they made trinkets and origami, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      respectively the Cluj County School Inspectorate, where they were greeted by the General Inspector, Mr. Valentin Claudiu Cuibus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • \"\"<\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        To familiarise themselves with the school system and the teaching methods in Romania, the students attended English classes as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • \"\"<\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Being asked what her favorite thing in Cluj was, Mio Yoneda,\none of the students said: „I liked the old buildings of the city, they’re\nvery beautiful. However, what fascinated me most were the churches. In Japan\nthere are very few and you don’t get a chance to visit them. I’m so glad I\nmanaged to see those here\u201d. „I liked the food, especially the sarmale<\/em>. They were similar to a type of\ndish in Japan and I was very surprised to see that they were made with rice,”\nKosuke Tahara told us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

          The project\noutcomes<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          We were curious and wanted to find out what motivated\ntheir decision to come to Cluj Napoca, so we talked to the deputy director, Ms.\nYoko Tayama, to learn more details: „After\nyour arrival in Japan, last year, our students told me that they would like to\nmeet you, and asked me if we could somehow connect the two schools to make a\npartnership. It seemed impossible to me. However, they were very convincing, so\nI started thinking more seriously about it. In the summer of last year, I\nvisited Cluj and I met your teachers who impressed me with their hospitality\nand kindness, so that’s when I realized that our students should come here too.\u201d\n<\/em>When asked if our students could go to Japan, she told us: „Sure. We’ll discuss with your teachers\nwhen it would be the most appropriate time for both schools.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Farewell<\/strong> <\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          On the last evening of the visit, we organised a farewell\nparty with lots of Romanian specialities for our Japanese guests. Dancing and\nsinging together, we promised to keep these friendships strong in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

          Although we had many beautiful moments, the school\ndirector, Mr. Valentin Maxim-Oros, said that the most important of them all was\nthe last evening: „This informal meeting\nwithin the school is the most beautiful moment, one that confirms the success\nof the Japanese students and teachers\u2019 visit.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Last year the delegation of George Co\u0219buc National\nCollege presented an official document on behalf of Cluj-Napoca City Hall,\nrepresented by Mr. Mayor Emil Boc, to the City Hall of Kyoto, led by Mr. Mayor\nKadokawa Daisaku, making the first step in twinning the two cities. Following the\nvisit of our friends from Japan, our school and the Municipal High School\nHiyoshigaoka from Kyoto became \u2018twin schools\u2019 as well. Therefore, besides the fact that we now\nhave a formal partnership with a Japanese school, we have also created a strong\nbond with people we trust.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
