With the 2018 remix of Pink Floyd’s <\/span>Animals<\/span><\/i> album finally being released to the public, it’s time to look back at the time <\/span>when pigs flew<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Firstly, who is Pink Floyd?\u00a0<\/b><\/h5>\n
Pink Floyd is a progressive rock band formed in the late 60s in Cambridge, England. They’re well known for being one of the pioneers of psychedelic rock, using revolutionary compositions and philosophical lyrics, tackling subjects such as mortality, time, and mental illness. They were an album-focused band, who wrote almost exclusively concept albums. They started off with Beatles-Esque singles, moving onto avant-garde albums with long, space-themed instrumentals (<\/span>space rock<\/span><\/a>), before settling on more modern-themed albums.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Historical context of <\/b>Animals<\/i><\/b><\/h5>\n
The year is 1977, England. <\/span>The Punk movement<\/span><\/a> had been on the rise for the past couple of years with bands like <\/span>The Sex Pistols<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>The Clash<\/span><\/i> topping the charts. Pink Floyd’s psychedelic rock had been losing popularity, being too <\/span>posh<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>ignorant<\/span><\/i>: their music was complex, <\/span>pretentious,<\/span><\/i> and didn’t tackle socio-political topics like the punks did. <\/span>They<\/span><\/i> were the establishment the punks were fighting against, with Sid Vicious of <\/span>The Sex Pistols<\/span><\/i> famously leading the way with his „I hate Pink Floyd” t-shirt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Naturally, this had a huge impact on Floyd’s music. Following <\/span>Wish You Were Here<\/span><\/i><\/a> and <\/span>The Dark Side Of The Moon<\/span><\/i><\/a>, their best-selling album of all time, their new album <\/span>Animals<\/span><\/i> went in a completely different direction. Gone was the melancholic and philosophical aspect of their soft, glassy sound and lyrics, being replaced by a more aggressive, raw, and critical piece.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
Animals<\/span><\/i> is a concept album, like all their past work, meaning that all the songs on the record belong to a certain concept; they need to be played one after the other, in the way the band intended it. Concept albums essentially consist of one musical piece divided into multiple tracks.<\/span><\/p>\n
